Sorting Center in Ghana

Our Sorting Center in Ghana

After a lot of hard work and time, finally we are really happy to present our first sorting center, which is located in Art center Beach, Accra.

The construction, approximately 30 meters long, consists of bamboo walls, a canvas roof, and protection against water and wind. Here will be the place where we separate and keep the recycled material collected, until we can transform it on other products. We mainly focus on the collection of PET and plastic bottles, so if you go through Art Center and you have material, do not hesitate to leave it to us!

This will also mean that our future events take place near this beach, in this way we can transport the materials easily and they do not return to the environment.

The center has been possible thank you to the assosiation betwin mondo4africa & Lets Go Clean The Beach. Where mondo4africa provided the funds and Lets Go Clean the Beach (Togbe Ghana) has executed the operations.

After the construction,  the recycled materials from our events are being brought to our sorting center where it is being stored them in a safe place, preventing them from getting lost while we convert them into other materials and do not end up on the beach again:

What we do with the plastic

we have been dedicating time and resources in the ways in which we can convert the plastic found on the beaches during our events.

After research and debate, we have made the decision to transform into blocks that can replace bricks for the construction of floors and walkways.

In this way, plastic can find a new use for the duration of its organic life.

Its conversion into floor bricks is a small step in this great project in search of sustainabilMany thanks to Togbe Ghana for her incredible work and dedication in fighting the plastic crisis in Africa.

In the pictures below you can follow the process in which plastic is convert on bricks.

When the plastic allows it, it can also be manually reconverted into bags (after cutting it into strips and a washing process).

You will be able to find many of these products after our events.

We have to thank the final development of these products for the appearance of a new sponsor who has been of great help: De-Tomes. who have donated material necessary to begin the conversion of plastics. Thank you! we hope to hear more from them.
